The Bissaya Barreto Municipal Aerodrome is located 1,4 NM SW of the City of Coimbra, being the main civil aeronautics institution between Lisbon and Porto. It possesses two runways (16/34) and a range of air navigation support equipment, as well as aerodrome traffic information service and night-flight certification.
This aeronautical facility registers an average of roughly 7200 movements/year, from which we highlight instruction and training flights, private or business flights and flights connected to civil protection services, namely forest fire fight flights during summer.
The Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) is a useful information service for aircrafts on the ground and airborne in the area controlled by the aerodrome, providing namely the runway in use, the conditions and intensity of the wind, QNH, the traffic on the circuit and refuelling conditions.
The AFIS (Aerodrome Flight Information Service) is guaranteed permanently, 365 days a year, according to the operational schedule of the aerodrome.
Summer Schedule – from 08:30 to 20:00;
Winter schedule – from 08:30 until sunset. Aerodrome Traffic Information Agents (AITA), are licensed personnel with a special authorisation to operate the AFIS at the Aerodrome.
